1970 vs 1971 Gas Pedal ?

I was recently looking at pictures of a professionally restored 1970 E Body and noticed it had the 1971 Style gas pedal in it.

Was this a mid-run production change ? If so, is anybody aware of the date it might have taken place ? I've NEVER seen a 71+ style in a 70 car before

All the 1970's I've had used the 1970 pedal.

My '70 Challenger originally came with the 70 pedal, like the top photo. Still has it, I recently ran across another one I have  in my garage. Thanks,   Al
