Console Glove Box Lid Misaligned

Working on reinstalling my original 1970 automatic floor console. It's in great shape except the glove box (not sure it's called that) lid does not align properly. I tried adjusting the hinge as much as possible but nothing really helps (or changes make some other misalignment). I assume that a fifty year old plastic part is not going fit perfectly but I'd like to get it fitting better. Does anyone have any tricks/tips for getting these lids to fit better? The hinge appears to be fairly straight.

Take the lid apart and check to see if all the mounting bosses are intact.

The hinge spring tension may be causing the problems. Try it with no spring tension to see how it fits.
