Hey guys,

Years ago I purchased new convertible top cylinders for my 71 Challenger.  We I'm putting the system back together and I was wondering what type of fluid to use? The instructions say to use DOT-3 or automatic trans fluid?  For newer one's like ours Convertible Top Specialists say automatic trans fluid is recommended.  I would think clear hydraulic fluid?

So which one should I be using?  Any thoughts.  I want to use what will be best for the system.

Also any tips or tricks to the install.  Should I assemble everything hydraulic lines to pump and cylinders outside the car and then install or install in the car? I appreciate the help.

I used ATF on mine. I put the lines on after I put the cylinders in the car. If and when they leak brake fluid will eat the paint! It's pretty simple to install. Hardest part is putting the fluid in. I would recommend replacing the lines if they are hard or original. I didn't on mine because they looked good but as soon as I tried to move them into the holders they snapped!

Great thanks.  Yes I bought new lines.
