Glove box lock just stuck / spinning

Tried to open my glovebox and the knob will turn 180deg, then gets stuck.
Anyone have details on the mechanism?
I'm guessing some sort of pin or slot must have stripped.
So I need to figure out how to get it open, then fixed.

chrome is just crimped on possibly the core is not turning with the bezel , stick a trunk key in & see if it will open

Since the cardboard is easy to cut if you have to access the back, you could as a last resort go through the back to the two small Phillips screws that the latch catches on.  But before you do that make sure you try putting the key in and seeing if that helps.

Well that's embarrassing, didn't think of trying key.
I was able to open it, I'll have to spend some time this wknd trying to figure out what's wrong with the knob, once I get it apart.

I'm told that WD-40 is not the best thing to use on locks. I've always used powdered graphite, or Lock-Ease, a lock lubricant containing graphite.

Yes graphite. Just wipe the excess off right away.

Always use Graphite in locks , oils will attract dirt making the lock work worse

As a follow up, I wasn't able to get the cylinder out.
I ended up drilling it out to remove from the glovebox door.
I replaced the assembly with a non-locking unit so i don't have to worry about the key.

Good plan: I never was sure what we were supposed to lock up in there.
