Rallye Gauge Tach Red Line / Yellow Line.

Where does you Rallye gauge Red Line start?  I've seen a couple different ones....  Some at 5,500 and others at 6,500.  Any thoughts why?   :huh:

I was told that the difference was due to separate vendors but I have nothing to substantiate this. Another "theory" was that there were different engineering drawings floating around which resulted in the differing faces.

The most common answer I've heard is the different vendor theory.  This also could account for the slight difference in colors too.  Not to mention the 7000 vs 8000 tach usage and red line colors.  :dunno:

Is it a year thing or not?  Would the factory have changed the layout(lowered the redline) to possibly cut down on warranty claims?

Maybe different redlines due to different rev limits of different motors.  :dunno:

Seven thousand RPM tachometer's were installed on 1972-1974 cars, Eight thousand RPM tachometer's were on 1970-1971.

from what I've seen, early '72s used up remaining 8K inventory

I've found them on both so far.  Thought it was a Hemi thing, but that didn't pan out either.   :thinking:  Maybe just a vendor thing.

It would seem BB got the 5k while the 340 would get the 6500rpm one.

That would make sense, but that is assuming the company gave it that much thought and took the steps to see it through. From a manufacturing stand point, it definitely complicates things and increases inventory (e.g. increases cost). Unless some engineer could make the case that the 500 rpm negatively impacted the warranty (meaning people with BB's hurting the engine with that extra 500 RPM), it would "seem" counter intuitive from a business prospective. Doesn't mean it isn't so, dumber things have happened, just saying.

comparing known unrestored gauge clusters VS. car, SPD, plants & cluster assembly dates could lead to a better understanding of who/what/when??

04091 is the vendor code * got any with a different number?
1810 is the assembly date = Tuesday June 30, 1970
