Has anyone had problems with this product?   I purchased it a few years back bc I buy parts a bit at a time.  I open the box and just pulling the rolled up sheets out the product was breaking apart.  I tried unrolling it and it only went down hill from there.    Is this normal or did I just let it sit too long?   It's 60 deg in my shop.

that product stays in place, and works, in part, by being stiff.  now that its broken up is a little unfortunate.  but not all is lost.  it needs to be heated, like to 80F plus, placed in the sun for a few hours.

if I wanted to make it work, I would get the product to lay flat, but be careful, it may be brittle.  heat is your friend.  i have a hot tub, and I might be tempted to place the pieces in the hot tub to make them malleable, again.

one they are flat, again, and cooled, piece the broken parts back together, using a strong and lasting sticky tape.  I've had great results with this foil-backed sticky tape.

butyl is pretty cool stuff for what is does, stays sticky, doesn't harden, pretty nice for sound dampening uses, too.

once the parts are whole again, those panels may need to be held in place with more butyl material.

all this, of course, is just one way to do it.  and if, you really wanted to make those panels work.

Where does this get installed? Was it factory type item replacement? Don't remember these in my car.

I would have to see the shape of the pieces reassembled to know for sure, but:

  • no, not representative of a factory part in a 1970 or 1971 e-body
  • they go below where people's feet go, and behind the back seat
