This request is not for me but for a very good friend of mine.

He wants to trade his pair of 1970 Challenger power window door regulators for a pair of 1971 and up ones.

His are not for sale, trade only.

PM me if you can accommodate this and I'll get the two of you in touch with each other. He lives near the Cleveland, Ohio area.

I'm not aware of any difference.... My parts catalog only lists one part number.....  The are 70-71 only, no power windows in 72 & up...

Thanks guys. He said something about the internal bracing of his '71 doors wouldn't accommodate his '70 P/W regulators. I sent him a link to this thread, hopefully he could open it and see what you two said.

We know the cat whiskers (felts) changed from 1970 to 1971+, but was there other interior changes to the doors?   :notsure:

I wish I would have seen in person what he was talking about but I won't be at his house until mid July.

He might have some 72 & up regulators & track parts in his current doors, The track part that's shaped like a cross & mounts near the back that guides the rear of the regulator changed along with the regulators, If you try to use the 72 & up cross with a 71 & earlier regulator or the power regulators the window winds up at a severe angle & binds...

He sent me some pictures last night

The green door is a 1970 one and he's pointing at the area of concern.

The purple door is the '71(his car) doesn't have that longer "cutout".

He also said recently there was an episode on GYC where the guy was trying to put a '70 regulator in a green '71 Challenger and it wouldn't work. I don't get Velocity but I saw some pics of that GYC car on line and it looks like they were working with a manual regulator. I think he was able to open the links but, just in case, I told him about the P/W regulator part numbers being the same for both years.

We know they changed some parts of the door from 1970 to 1971 so the regulator might have been different too.  I have a lot of regulators here that would could check if you were closer, but I'm not sure of the years on them.  I normally just test fit them in the door while doing metal work and find the best pair.  Now I'm going to pay closer attention next time I do a door.    :takealook:

The are different, the end is cutoff of the geared area on one style and not the end... sort of cut off the triangle on the end.  I think it will hit if you use the wrong one in the wrong year.  But is he using power or manual, says power, but I see manual regs in the pic.  I probably have both styles here and could compare/photo, but my basement is so full, may take a while.

I'm totally interested in seeing the 2 different styles next to each other.      Learn something new each time I meet a new E-Body guy.   :bravo:

He's going to be using power window regulators. The green door picture with the manual regulator is only for reference to show the area of concern. He knows the difference between '70 manual regulators and '71 and up manual regulators. What's throwing me for a loop is why there's an installation issue if '70 and '71 power window regulators have the same part number.

If you talking about what I've visualizing the teeth cut off is in the rear regulators not the doors... And thats hardtop vs convertible....
