I fell through river ice up to my neck in the middle of the winter at about -20 f when I was 10 yrs old and have been leery of going on any ice ever since.

Don't understand why people want to take their cars onto the ice, you have no clue if there is a crack or open water covered by a thin layer of ice and some snow.
