The tag indicates it was a four speed AND air conditioning. I didn't think those two were allowed together. Have I got my facts wrong? Is this tag fake? or is this a unique combo that slipped through?

Yes! @usraptor  bought a new 1970 383 4-speed 'cuda with air conditioning. If you look for cars you wish you never sold, in general  topics he has a story about it.   :alan2cents:

You could not get a 4 speed with air on a 440,440-6,or Hemi.

Correct, 340 or 383 with A/C no problem.

And even a 3:55 gear was available...  No 3:91...

No ac with a shaker hood or any three two barrel carb vehicle.  :alan2cents:

I owned a 71 Cuda with 340 4spd with AC
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

So no AC on a 440 Magnum if you had a 4 speed? What was the reason for this?

Flatdad

Well I learned something today then! This pricing list for 71 challengers is what threw me off, you can see for option H51 (AC) it says NA with manual transmission.

I agree it wasn't an option on 6 pak, but Chrysler must have fiddled around with the idea......car#065 on battery
I have literature showing A/C installed on an 440-6 E-body.
Here's a few pictures from the text.

1970, it's ok to have H51 and D21:

AFAIK:
A/C was never available with: 3.54 DANA 60, 3.91 (8-3/4), 4.10 DANA 60
A/C was never available with multiple carburetors 1965-1972

1970 (ALL year)
A/C was available with 340-4 w/3 or 4-speed
A/C was available with 383-4 w/3 or 4-speed

1971 (EARLY)
A/C was available with 340-4 w/3 or 4-speed
A/C was available with 383-4 w/3 or 4-speed
* during the 1971 model year A/C was discontinued from the above 2 combinations

@Flatdad what is the date on that version of the price guide?

it also shows E24 225 slant 6 with a 4 speed .... as far as I know, a 4spd was never an option with the slant 6
Growing older is mandatory...growing up is optional.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

'70 Barracuda B5/B5 225 /6 3spd ... about as bare bones as they came

:iagree: That was my understanding. As far as I can remember, the only American car that offered a 4-speed with a 6 cylinder was the Mustang. And that was only in the first year of production.  :alan2cents:
