Has anyone installed a Borgeson box on a QA1 crossmember?

I find when I tighten down the 2 inner bolts, the outer bolt part of the box rises up off the mounting area by 1/4"
I did't even notice this and I hit it with 100fpt and pulled the threads right off of the bolt..

Not sure if it was angle or what

Luckily in this part of the crossmember, I can put a nut on the backside with a wrench vs drilling/tapping..

Anyone?

I have no experience with this but obviously not welded correctly to sit properly on the K frame , is the box hitting the K frame causing it not to sit flat or can you use shims between to get it to sit flush ?

I have the same setup, the box is not mounted yet. I'll set box in and have a look.

Dang: That's a lot of $$$$ and not have stuff line up properly.

Maybe try the box on your old k frame? That will tell if its the box or k frame mounts?

I just put in the qa1 k member and a stock type box with no issues with the box mounting. But I find it hard to believe there's the odd borgsen box that is cast wrong? So I'm thinking a qa1 quality control issue.

Make sure there is nothing preventing the box from setting in there like it is supposed to.

It could be an extra part of the casting that QA1 didn't plan for , allowing the stock box to mount properly but not hte Borgeson one

I mounted the stock box on the new QA1 K-frame and it fit perfect.

I believe the bracket that has the 2 inner bolts was machined at a slight angle..
When you tighten it up, it makes that 1 single mounting area rise off of the K-frame

Nothing obstructs the box anywhere..
No welds come into the mounting surface..

If I understand your reply correctly, it then must be the borgeson box that is not machined correct/flat?
I'd recommend using front end shims to get it sitting flat as to not put stress on the casting and possibly crack it.  :alan2cents:

Why not hit the Borgenson box mounting surfaces with angle grinder to get it to lay flat.

I would mount the k member and steering box on the car and see how the steering coupler line up.

I feel as tho I shouldn't have to modify a part for what I paid for it to "make it fit" though...

This is what I'm concerned about..

I'm not exactly sure how to shim this..

This is my main concern..
I think I'll contact Borgeson directly

They should know when there's problems or else it will continue..

The stock box bolted up flawlessly on the QA1 crossmember..

The Borgeson box is physically smaller..
No my picture, but a representation..

Borgeson makes many steering box application. Not sure how quickly they respond. You can also try Bergman Autocraft. Peter might be able to help. He reps and sells the Borgeson box and the associated parts. He is also a Mopar guy.

Borgeson used to have QA issues in the past, I dug through some old posts. Wander if they are back. The box is at my son's house so I can't check it yet. The brackets are welded on if I remember correctly. Now I'll have to check how the box aligns with the steering column. We do have the Bergman coupling, just in case we have to go to stock steering and avoid cutting the steering shaft.
