70 Barracuda Gran Coupe with drum brakes all the way around and Bendix vacuum assist booster, new brakes, new booster, new lines, new master cylinder.   I have bled the master cylinder and have bled the brakes twice just to be sure completely bled.  The booster is working fine (with light brake pressure and then starting the engine, the pedal softens slightly).  Brakes come on solid, but down near the end of the pedal travel.  Pedal does return entirely to the brake lights switch.  How can I adjust where brake actuation occurs?  Do I have an incorrect master cylinder to match up to the push rod coming out of the booster?  Is there some adjustment of that push rod if I disconnect the master cylinder and start over with bleeding?  I have checked under the dash and no problems with the brake linkage.

The rod coming out of the power brake booster is adjustable in length. Don't go too crazy or your brakes will drag..one turn makes a difference in the pedal. Simply pull the master cylinder off the booster leaving the lines alone. :alan2cents:

Thanks Alan.  So, I don't unhook the brake lines from the master cylinder and just let them bend a little so I can adjust the push rod, right? Sounds pretty easy, thankfully.

Move the master forward slightly, you don't need a lot of room to get at the rod.

However... Be aware if you make the pushrod to long the brakes may slowly start applying themselves... If you don't allow the rear piston to return fully home hit will block the transfer port... The transfer port is how fluid returns to the reservoir when you release the brakes...

I am aware of that from other forums.  Thanks so much, it's good to have the knowledge from you on this.

I may have missed it if stated (apologies if I did), but you did adjust the brake shoes after assembly, correct? Fresh drums?
