You have to make sure the pins are clean and greased, and able to move as needed. Of bigger concern is that the caliper piston, caliper bore, and all seals are clean and undamaged - no pitting on the piston or the piston bore in caliper, no gunk in piston seal groove, and that the seal is in perfect shape (square with no wear on the lip that rides inside caliper bore).

If the piston isn't retracting a couple of thousandths when you release the brake pedal, that will cause the pad to ride the rotor, causing the drag and subsequent heat buildup.
