Someone mentioned that the Dana rears specifically may have been stamped, not the 8-3/4.   maybe that only pertains to other plants and bodies?

They have date dates, but not VIN stamps.  Normally there is 2 date stamps on a Dano 60 and they normally are a few days apart.

The VIN number refers to the Vehicle Identification Number. You won't find that number, or any part of that number, on any of the mechanical components of the car, with of course the exception of the transmission case and engine block.

As stated above the DANA 60 has a date code on it, (NO VIN) but also has a "BOM" # Bill of Material number which can help to determine what body vehicle, as well as what year that DANA 60 came from. It's not uncommon to find a B body DANA 60 in an E body, or to find a truck DANA in a vehicle. Refer to the below link for more excellent info.

thanks all

link printed and bookmarked for reference.

Wish he had pictures of the locations.  It might be nice to expose and clear coat the stampings.  I will have a look once car comes back home.

I notice the last sentence reads "don't forget the sure-grip additive"  ..guess i'll read the entire article for the answer to that one.  :dunno:
