Factory original wheels on a 70 cuda

@xx88man   I was scanning databooks pages before work this morning and came across this (out of the 1970 Plymouth Data Book).  Not saying everything factory printed is correct, but would like to get @6bblgt  thoughts on it.  To me it looks like you would have gotten 15" wheels?   Am I seeing that correctly?

It was a 340 4BBL auto....

Notice F60X15's were NOT optional on all engine sizes like some people like to believe.

there are some clues to work with:
road & rallye wheels had red painted brake drum faces
cars with 15" wheels usually had spacers under the lower control arm rebound bumper
rear gear ratio & tire determined what speedo pinion was installed in the transmission - original gear & trans?

It came with a 3:55 SG and an auto trans

speed-o pinion would be 36 tooth with F70-14 & 37 tooth with E60-15 if original

early paperwork for both the 340 'cuda & Challenger w/A66 340 engine package show included or STANDARD 15x7" wheels & E60-15 tires

by the time "official" price guides were released (mid-September 1969) the 340 was a NO COST OPTION in the 383HP based  'cuda - Chrysler Corp. was not giving away upgraded tires - they were not included for FREE.

the 340 Challenger was a late addition to the Dodge e-body line-up (~6 weeks late to the party) and was offered as a $250+ package on the 318 based V8 Challenger.  Included in that $250 were E60-15 tires, by November '69 the tires were gone from the package & the OPTION's price was revised.

I had a 1971 340 Cuda where the guy ordered 15" Steel wheels....You'd think maybe he wanted the tires for mag wheels, but the original 450's remained with the car until I sold it in 2005 or so...

the E60-15 tires were an orderable OPTION - the 15x7.0" steel wheels were not (they were still considered the cheap STANDARD wheel)

W21 "rallye wheels" were an orderable OPTION (same price 14" or 15", an upgrade from the STANDARD plain steel wheels)

Not to derail the thread too much, but how about for Challengers, say you had a 383 R/T with hubcaps, would the steel wheels also be 14x6, or would they be 14x5.5?
And say you had a car (Cuda or Challenger) with 14x5.5" rallyes or road wheels, would the spare also be 14x5.5, or 14x6?

Okay so the guy "ordered" E60X15 TIRES and got the rims for free.... what I meant was he wanted 15" tires but didn't opt for the rally wheel where he would have to "order" the rims and get the tires for free

What cost more ?
The E60 tire option or the 15" rally option ?

Challenger R/T was about the same - an additional "deep dish" wheel cover was available
T/A had hub caps & trim rings STANDARD

E-body:
14x6.0" wheels on the car had a 14x6.0 wheel in the trunk (unless it was a space saver spare)
14x5.5" wheels on the car had a 14x5.5" wheel in the trunk

15x7.0" wheels on the car had a 14x5.5" space saver in the trunk

nothing was FREE - some equipment was STANDARD and included in the base price

W21 - "rallye wheels" were a $43.10 OPTION - the size you received was based on the tires

U82 - "E60-15 tires" were a $47.95 OPTION

So you're saying.....
Hypothetically speaking.....
If a guy wanted a new car with 15" tires because he has every intention on installing new Mag wheels on day two.....

It would have been cheaper for him to order 15" rallies instead of 15" tires.

Which brings me back to my first point....It was very odd that this car of mine was ordered with 15" tires on the standard steel wheel.
He also deleted the tinted glass on the car as well G21

there is NO 15" WHEEL OPTION!!!

15" WHEEL was NOT an ORDERABLE OPTION on a non-HEMI E-body w/o first paying for the 15" TIRES

So you're saying a person would first have to order 15" tires at the cost of $47.95 and if he wanted rally rims instead of the standard wheel he'd have to also order the 15" rally option at an additional cost of $43.10.

So getting a car with 15" rallies would cost $91.05 . Makes perfect sense now. Thanks
