I'm trying to figure out my Parking brake system. My car did not have the cabling installed. It went MIA who knows when before I got the car. So, how do I know if I have the intermediate system or non? If the whole thing is missing, can I put back which ever I want? If so, which is best, easier, the way to go?
Thanks.

No numbers to back it up, but my guess would be systems using the intermediate cable are far more common.  Seems like a better system as well since the pull on the two individual brakes looks to be way more evenly distributed on that set up vs the no intermediate cable. No proof of that either, just my opinion after comparing the two.

Guessing too that you can go with whatever style you'd like.
Inline Tube is a pretty good source for all things parking brake related. I've had really good luck with their products.

Well, the stock system is just a clothes lines hung underneath the car with hooks/s-clips.
I installed an E-Stopp with lokar cables. Far better setup....imo

From What I understand the '70 models are unique and will have the brackets in a different locations than the '71-74s

Has anyone recently bought the intermediate set? In looking at the pictures @Bullitt- posted, I think mine must have been the non-intermediate system. I have the front cable, but nothing else. The bracket that both wheel cables connect to is attached at the end of my cable. The other thing I noticed is that the front cable for the non-intermediate system has a clevis type connector on it to connect to the pedal assembly. I don't see that clevis on the new front cable for the intermediate system from Inline Tube. I'm beginning to think I have to stay with the original system.
Anyone else care to chime in on this?

The intermediate cable system from Inline Tube has crimped on beads on all of the cable ends.

I think the clevis is not included, you would reuse the original.
The ball on the end of the cable snaps into the clevis??

I agree the intermediate cable setup didn't start until 1971 and it is a better design, even the brake mechanism itself is beefed up over the 1970 style. But all cleaned up with new cables the earlier setup should work well enough. On a 70 make sure the lever mechanism has both springs intact and that the little nylon stop bushing at the handle is in good shape so that everything works as it should, and check for any bent parts. Sometimes this little stop tab breaks off and needs to be repaired. I went with stainless cables from Fine Lines for my 70.

I just looked at mine and I can say with certainty that the clevis is not coming off unless I cut the ball off of my cable. I have no idea how you'd get it on the new cable. I think the clevis has to be installed during manufacturing. Can anyone confirm whether the clevis is used on the intermediate system? If not, how does the cable attach to the pedal assembly?
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you are telling me. As I said, the pictures from Inline Tube show their cable for the intermediate system without the clevis. ??

only photo I could find with what I think is the parking brake clevis,(not mine)
you can see how the ball would push through the side opening & slip into position

Thanks Bullitt-. That is a completely different connection than is on my pedal assembly. I wish I could show you a picture of both my pedal and cable so you could see what I'm dealing with. I think though that you have shown me that I definitely need to stay with the non-intermediate system. The picture Inline Tube shows of their cable is the same cable I have with the clevis on the cable. The clevis is put on the cable before the ball is swaged on. So there is no way to remove it or put it on a different cable without cutting the cable and then swaging a new ball on the end.

The picture in the post by EV2RTSE is the pedal assembly I have. Note the cable keeper clamp where the cable comes in. the cable with clevis on the end goes up to where the large hole is and that is where you put a pin with a washer style keeper through it.
