Power steering fluid level?

My PS pump cap doesn't have a dip stick on it.  It's not in front of me at the moment but I think I have a Saginaw pump.  Two questions...should there be a dip stick on the cap?  What is the min-max levels from the top flange?  I'll try to get the right cap if this one isn't but there doesn't look to be a lot of fluid in there and I want to make sure the pump is working correctly before I start ordering stuff.  Car has only idled for a couple minutes in my ownership and not been on the road so I really don't have a lot of info on it yet.  Hopefully in a couple weeks when the new fuel tank is in, it will move under it's own power.

Yes the cap should have a dip stick on it which tells you the levels the fluid should be at.

If you don't have a dip stick on the cap, I would get one otherwise you're guessing. I can tell you it is at least 2' from the top flange, but that is just eyeballing it.

I'll get the correct one with a dip stick as soon as I have other stuff to order, but I wanted to get the level right ASAP so the next time I start it, the pump isn't cavitating due to low level and I can evaluate how the PS system is (or isn't) working.  Thanks!

Those "Help" parts at your local parts store quite frequently carry Saginaw PS caps, sorry I forget the # at this time. I would guess it is around 1.5-2" from the top as well. Make sure the pump is covered in the circular part of the case.
