Sorry for all the questions folks but my friend who was helping me a little moved to Kansas so I'm all alone at this point.

Question #1. Does it look like I have enough meat on my brakes to just keep these ones on for now?

Question #2 I'm assuming most aftermarket rims will cover up this centerpiece I'm pointing to so I don't need to restore it?

nsmall

Those last pictures were of the passenger side and the following are from the driver side...

Question #3 does it look like I have enough meat on these brake drums?  Not sure if that's the correct term.

Question #4 Is it okay to have the brake drum if that's what this is called sand blasted on the outside up to the area where my finger is pointing?  I guess a follow-up question is should the inside be blasted minus the area where the brake shoes hit?  I was just thinking of doing the inside just to clean it up.

Question #5. It looks like I can install the E brake line without taking my brakes apart. Am I correct in thinking this?

Question #6 the springs are pretty rusty, but the car braked fine and it looks like everything is nice and tight so should I just Not worry about the condition of the springs?

Thanks so much in advance guys as I'm getting closer and closer to having all these parts restored. I think. Been saying that for a while now.   :)

Question #7 upon further inspection I found a pretty considerable groove on the driver side brake drum.  Is this anything I should worry about as it looks like it's smooth on both sides?

It looks like the brakes on that side are wearing just fine.

Thanks

Chryco Psycho

It looks like you have maybe 30-40% wear on t he shoes so you are OK for now
a new spring kits is $20 or so if you want to change them out but it is more for looks ,
the wheels do cover the axle center ,
You can sand blast the drums & tape off the surface where the shoes run , or just have them resurfaced after , the groove is no big issue but the drums may be excessively worn preventing resurfacing them as the adjuster is open quite a bit , new drums might be a good idea
The brakes will have to be disassembled to add ? connect  the E brake cable

@Chryco Psycho

Thank you for your help. Everything you said made sense.  Not trying to challenge you but it seems like I can sneak in that ebrake line without disassembling the brakes.  You disagree?

Not sure how I would pull out the ebrake line spring like piece on picture number 3.  Any suggestions?

Bullitt-

I'm not seeing an adjuster cable, guide or lever.... gonna hafta disassemble to put those on anyway.

Thanks guys.  I got these brakes under control now, well, let us hope.

Chryco Psycho

The only way I have found to install the e brake cable is with the shoes removed , go ahead & try without !! Maybe you are better than me , but for the hassle I believe it will be faster to remove at leas the rear shoe .
depress 1 Tang at a time & rock the cable while the tang is depressed to hold it in the hole while you depress the next one  you will probably need a screwdriver to get the last one behind the cable

@Chryco Psycho

I bought new drums as they were pretty cheap.  The new drums didn't fit so I adjusted the deal and pointing at here in the picture.  My question is is how much of a gap should there be between my brake shoes and the brake drum?

I have one more question for you. In picture number 2 it looks like a missing a spring. Is this something I should worry about and order?

Thanks Panama Neil.

Sincerely California Neil.

The top picture has an extra spring that shouldn't be there. :alan2cents:

You are really going to need a hardware kit. You are missing stuff and the one lower spring doesn't go there. Also the self adjuster (cylinder with teeth) has to go a certain direction. The illustration above shows how everything should look. Remember each side will mirror the other once assembled. Chryo is correct about the e cable. Your not going to get it on there with everything assembled, The spring is to stiff to work with. Here are some pics of how it should look. Be sure and pay attention which is drivers side and passenger side.
