Will any 8.75 center section fit in any 8.75 housing?  Example does a 742 center section  have to go in 742 housing ?

Floyd

Yes, 741, 742, and 489 cases will all fit into any 8.75 housing.

I assumed so but you know what happens when you assume.  Thanks

Yes, but you do have to pay attention to the pinion yoke size and spline count for the rear driveshaft U-joint.
There two different yoke (U-joint) sizes and spline counts. 7260 & 7290 series for the 8.75 inch with 10 & 29 spline count.
The 7260 is 2-1/8" Yoke ID and the 7290 is 2-5/8" Yoke ID.
If the yoke on the pinion of the case you are installing does not match the driveshaft, there is a conversion U-joint that mates 7260 to 7290. A solution for a common problem.

If you do have a need to modify your driveshaft for any reason, consider whether you should upgrade to a 1350-series transmission yoke, 1350 driveshaft, and a new 1350 pinion yoke. Super strength for running stroker motors with slicks.

It is good to ask the question. Some people confuse the housing with the center section. housing interchange, center sections do not.
