Is the date code on a wheel rim? Aug 29? How do I know what year?

Correct, "8" is Aug and "29" is the day.  The year is stamped to the left in your picture.   It looks like "M4" with a "3" underneath.  The "3" is the year, likely 1973.

The placement is a little odd.  They are normally stamped around the valve stem opening on the face of the rim.  That's the backside right?

He's likely saved them since August 1929 :pokeeye:

@Floyd that rim is stamped on both front and back. Surely that makes it rare and extremely more valuable  :haha One of the four rims is stamped Nov 17/76. It's grey in the centre and does not have the pentastar logo. I'm guessing a PO damaged a rim and maybe got one from a wrecker. It has yellow grease pencil on it. The other three all have the logo but just one stamped on both sides.
