Searched,  but then decided to go right to the folks that can tell me simply.....how to adjust the steering box.  To get to mine...1970 Challenger with 440 and headers......I had to remove the battery and battery tray...still a little tough to get to but...took a 3/4" box end and loosened the lock nut...long screw driver at a bit of an angle and I thought I knew what I was doing.

I can only get about one turn down or up.......with at lease 4 " of play in the steering wheel side to side...thought I would get some change....No...  I am at a loss as to exactly what to do now.  ( No looseness in the coupler that I can tell).

Read somewhere that this adjustment needs to be made while the engine is running......thats going to be hard for me to do.........

SO......any simple suggestions or steps to keep the steering from wandering.......I know she is over 50 but...shouldn't be like driving a semi...an old one at that.   Thanks in advance.....

Thank you Wade.  Guess I will try that.  Got to get the play out of the wheel.  Interesting video.  There was another one showing the open gears . Sector gear up and down.....don't get it in a bind.  Hope you are well.  I am still working 45 hrs a week.  Retired 5 years ago.  Right!

After I had my steering box rebuilt by Firm Feel, initially the steering was pretty loose... like what you described.  They recommended making small adjustments (no more than a 1/4 turn at a time) to the set screw.  After 3/4 of a turn there was no more improvement.   Eventually figured out I had installed the shoes in the steering coupler in the wrong orientatiom (both needed to be rotated 90 degrees).  The steering was really good afterwards.

Here's the thread:  https://forum.e-bodies.org/wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-and-steering/12/how-not-to-do-it-shoe-orientation-in-steering-box-coupler/18952/msg242173#msg242173

Well, I do remember that I had the coupler apart.  Way back when.  Guess that will be a step to check too.  Thanks.
