Steering Box Mounting Bolts

Anyone know what the steering box bolt size is. I'm at work so i can't check and want to order some new ARP ones for the weekend. I think they are 1/2-13 in.  :thinking:  Just need to know for sure. I'm talking about the 3 that mount the box to the K Member.  Thanks!

Do they have a tapered section to them? Trying to remember. Alan knows, he gave me some replacements when I mis-placed my original ones.  :thinking:

Nope, they don't look to be tapered.

JB, those look totally different than mine did. Those are also 12 point from the look of them and if so, Mother Mopar didn't put them in. I'll try to remember to look in my junk box as my original ones surfaced after I'd used Alan's.  :dunno:

Actually Mopar did use 12 point bolts till 72....

Thanks guys! I'm actually switching over to the Borgeson box on a QA1 K member. I just needed the thread size so I could order the correct size stainless ARP bolts. By the way mine originally came with the hex head bolts.

I am about to assemble my QA1 suspension for the CUda with the Borgenson box as well, please keep us posted if you have any issues :)

I am probably going to use a Flaming River Tilt column in my build as well. I am curious how all of this aftermarket craziness is gonna piece together and whether I will regret my choice to stray from stock or not. :)

Grade 8 bolts have a proof load of 120,000 pounds per square inch. The minimum strength of stainless steel bolts is 40,000 to 90,000 psi. The minimum strength of grade 8 bolts is 130,000 psi. Grade 8 bolts are much stronger than stainless steel.

A stainless steel bolt has the same PSI rating as a grade 5 bolt (125,000 PSI)

Yup, lots of people assume stainless is stronger..... It isn't.... But it does have certain qualities that make it the choice for harsh chemical environments...

ARP claims they are stronger than grade 8. 180000 psi. I think you guys are referring to hardware store stainless bolts.

Actually Mopar did use 12 point bolts till 72....
Gotcha, my car is a 74 and they were hex head, and in my delirium, I assumed they were the standard. My bad.  :rubeyes:
