So I'm gonna be replacing the tires on the hardtop this week and I'm thinking about putting on a taller tire . . So I have 275s on the convertible and 255s on the hardtop . . So I'm thinking 265s for the hardtop?  Any reason that would be an issue?  Thoughts?

Those are tire widths, but assuming you are staying with the same aspect ratio, 60?, you will be fine.
So long as it is within the capability of the rim...
Why not 275's? More meat, more better. And the cars could spare up rear tires in a pinch.

So the convertible has 275/60 on the back, 235/60 on the front.
The hardtop has 255/60 on the back and 215/65 on the front.

I think the Dana in the hardtop is from a b-body which makes it a little more challenging as I think it is wider.  Guess not sure what to get . . . Need tires this week though . .

Mr Lee

Ive never heard of 265's.  Unless thats a new size, i think they go from 255 right to 275, in a 60 profile

Same here in Aust we donot have a 265/60/15  so I settled for 255/60 /15. They all look good

    :thinking:  Swap a tire off the vert & see if 275/60 is an issue

An easy decision is  245-60-15 front, 275-60-15 rear... both will fit on factory 15x7 rims (4" back spacing) within our wheel wells without any problems.   If you get 8" rims, then be certain the back spacing is 4-3/8" ~ 4.5" to make them fit without any problems.   235-60-15 fronts are OK, just a little too small when you can safely run 245-60-15.

On my Challenger, I have different choices of rims/tires for different purposes.  For street... mostly highway cruising... I really like my BFG T/A 255-60-15 fronts, 275-60-15 rears... mounted on 15x8 Mini-lite rims with 4-3/8" back spacing ... the 60-series gives a comfortable absorbing ride when going over any bumps, etc.   IF you install shorter profile tires, such as 50-45-40-35 series tires, the ride comfort become stiffer as there is less sidewall to absorb bumps, but, your steering response becomes a little quicker for fast manuevers L-R-L-R....

Note... my fender lips have been slightly pulled and flushed for clearance of the Hoosier 275-45-60 racing tires.  my suspension is stiffly setup primary for handling and competitive purposes.  Despite the extra stiffness, its still comfortable to drive off-track.

For road course/track events (HPDE/HSAX, AX), I've been using 16x8 255-50-16 F/R BFG G-Force, and also 16x10 275-45-16 Hoosier A6 gum-ball sticky tires.

Eventually, I'll get some 18x10 rims and run 275-35-18 200 tread wear tires.

A good custom/stock setup are the YearOne 17x9 rims.. using 275-40-17 tires F/R... they will fit as the rims are properly designed having the correct back spacing, and the tires are a bit on the short side in diameter.... if you'd want, for peace of mind, minimal if any fender lip flushing is required.

IIRC long ago I have seen 265s.
They were not the norm back then. Definitely not now. As noted. 275 widths will fit with no issue. These are 275-60s on custom 8.5 wide rims. W/4.75bs. Zero rubbing and nothing factory has been trimmed anywhere.
The 275-60s will be taller than the 255-60s if that is what you want.
28" v/s 27".

Woop I reversed info. Will correct first post. Thanks for the catch.
275 = 28"
255= 27"

On my '70 'Cuda I run BFG T/A 225-60-15 fronts, 275-60-15 rears.  The rears are on 8" American Racing 5 spoke mags and the fronts are on 7" AR mags.  The 275 fit perfect with my Dana 60 rear and stock leaf springs.  I went with 225s on the front since my car has 16:1 manual steering and I wanted less contact area on the ground for steering at slow speeds, less than 10 MPH.  I'm old now and my arms aren't as strong as they once were.  :D

That's a good idea . .funny I tried to put the cragers on the convertible and that definitely failed.  I got them on there but wasn't going anywhere . .have a picture of it in the drive way and that is it . .
