torsion bar adjustment

We are about to drop the engine in.  Currently, the torsion bars are adjusted such that the car is at a decent ride height.  Once the engine goes in, I am sure it will be too low (big block).  Should I adjust up the ride height some before putting the engine in, or just mess with it afterward?  I have never had a torsion bar car before.

Final height adjustment would be one of the last things I would do before you get the alignment. Everything thing you add to the car will affect the height. :alan2cents:

I would raise it prior to dropping that big lump in there. A little or a lot depending on your t-bar size. Lots if they are original tbars.

Don't adjust with tires on ground.

Download the Factory Service Manual. Completely read the front suspension section which is section 2.
The lst page of the section contains the alignment and torque specs for the front suspension.
Torsion bar installation and adjust,ment is also covered.
This is the best time to refresh/rebuild the front suspension  as there is a lot of working room and no load on the suspension.
Have the torsion bars been replaced/upgraded ?  There is a right and left bar.

Arent the factory alignment specs intended for polyglass tires?    I've heard that alignments should be done differently for polyglass vs steel belted modern radials.    Is that not true then?

This is important - years ago I broke the adjustment bolt on one side on my '73 Satellite trying to adjust with weight on the bars
