Here's a softball for someone. I don't know what the name of this boot or cover is called but unfortunately it tore.  I have an new PST polygraphite suspension rebuild kit it, as for these covers....they are cheap.

I guess I have another question. I'm assuming I should get this replaced now that my K frame and suspension is out?  I never go on dirt roads and I really don't want to have to buy it a second time.  The rest of their kit works really good and there's no noises.

IT's a Ball Joint and that is the rubber boot that covers it.

Burdar

Upper ball joint.  Upper ball joint dust boot.

Correction, the PST kit did NOT come with the ball joint dust boot.  I guess I have an old one...hence why it is cracked.

I'm assuming putting on a new boot is a pain?

Thanks

You are in the same boat I am.

One of mine ripped so I have to replace the ball joint.

It can be pretty hard to get the control arm off and sometime the ball joint gets messed up.  So you could be taking a chance on replacing the ball joint too just to replace the boot.   :notsure:

Where can you buy boots? I also need to swap out a few torn on the tie rods.

So Cody are you saying not to change it?

I thought someone was selling factory correct dust boots.  The problem is that they might not fit an aftermarket replacement ball joint or tie rod.

The PST kit SHOULD have come with new dust boots.  They come with any other replacement upper ball joint.  Call them and ask them why you didn't get new ones.

The ones I got have a metal ring inside the rubber.  The UBJ is machined for this ring to fit around it.  A few taps with a blunt punch and the boot is installed.  It would be harder to install with the UCA still installed.  With the arm on the ground, it shouldn't be difficult.

Over the years I have found it basically impossible to find just the  boots , lately I have seen a few available , check with Rock Auto they may have them  you can buy them in Poly urethane from Energy too

If it was mine, I would fix it.  Just giving him a heads up that the procedure to remove the control arm might be a little hard for a first timer and I would hate for him to mess up the ball joint.  The dust boots provide protection to the ball joint, but I've also seen a lot of torn or ripped boots and the ball joint keeps on working.

I'm guessing Cody wasn't talking to me since I've already replaced most of my suspension components. The upper ball joint isn't that bad to remove and replace. I may try to replace the boots cause my parts have almost no miles on them.

The downside is the parts I got must have been sitting on the shelf for awhile because it didn't take them long to rip.

Parts these days.....ughhh
