You are fine , as long as the cap extends out of the DS by the same amount & you got the retaining clips in place the shaft is centered

YellowThumper

Life is to be viewed thru the windshield. Not rear view mirror.
You are the only one in charge of your destiny.

Mike.

I'm back again after a bit more work. Finally got the car on the ground and running.  :wrenching: :wrenching: :D

A couple of missteps on the way there though.  First I filled the radiator. Next morning I saw just a couple of tiny drops on the floor.  Hmmmm, what the heck. After much searching around I discovered that one front exhaust bolt and one rear exhaust bolt was leaking ever so slightly.  I removed them and NO THREAD SEALANT.  I knew it needed to be done but totally spaced it out. got that fixed and no leaks.  :bigthumb:

Next, lowered the car to the floor - first time on the ground in 2 1/2 years - Put it in neutral to roll back out of the garage. No brakes!  Emergency brake - no effect, pushed the main brake to the floor, hard. Stopped the slow roll.  Jacked up car - adjusted rear brake drums - much better but I need to dial in a bit better and probably bleed the brakes again.  Just another thing that I thought I had done, but didn't.

Ok, out in the drive, clear of the garage and my wife finally stopped bugging me about a fire extinguisher. . .   Go figure

So I put 5 gallons of premium in the tank, doesn't even register on the gauge. Filled the carburetor bowels and the engine fired almost immediately, ran for several seconds and died.  Hmmm . . . .  Filled the bowels a second time, same result.   OK need more gas in the tank.  Well its Saturday and I have to share the same traffic light with the local county fair grounds as thousands of people are coming and going from an event. Half an hour to go 2 miles for some gas.  :steamingmad: :steamingmad:

So another 5 gallons into the tank, fill the bowels of the carburetor again, same result, starts right up, runs and dies.

Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel log to the carb.  No gas.

Ok - look down a little lower and I start laughing.  :haha: Never ran the line from the end of the hard line from the fuel tank to the inlet on the fuel pump. Wife comes over and gives me a hug.  Ok, quick work on that and filled the bowels one last time.  Started up fine and didn't look back. Need to set the choke and adjust the idle but I'm real happy. Somewhat of a lope at idle but that was expected with the cam I have.

I'll try to attach a video:

I am glad it is on its feet again & alive , you are freakin lucky some kind of brake worked or the car could be miles away by now !! , best to double check everything & take your time  :alan2cents:
I AM happy you are making progress !!

@Chryco Psycho, appreciate the comment.

I did get a bit anxious, it's real easy to let something get by you that you are certain was done.

Making noticeable progress now. Still lots of small stuff and never seems like enough time.

The interior is virtually complete:

While I  got side tracked with string lines, toe ins and outs and camber an such  . . . . . .   My NUPAR Horn Button from @Mickm arrived.

Very nice piece, really like the way it complements the interior.

What seats are they? I'm scrolling through your thread so I may have missed where you said what kind.

PatO

The seats are by Corbeau. "Sport Seat" model in their "Sport Reclining" category.  Black vinyl with cloth inserts. The cloth seems to be a finely woven nylon weave.  They make a seat bracket specifically for the Challenger to mount the seats with. Installed in a matter of minutes.  :bigthumb:  I was looking for a bit more modern seat with mild bolsters.

A few more months have passed - sweating out the last details in my garage. What a contrast between electric heaters in the winter and a large fan in the summer.

I've driven the car a few times for a few miles each time just trying to get a feel for how it runs. Trying to find someone to do an alignment for me without feeding me a bowl of bs.

Here are a couple of pics:
