74 Challenger with twins

Finished de-pinning a bulkhead plug. Removed all but starter solinoid and alternator wires. Connections soldered and rewrapped.
Modified the fuel rails. Previously there were -6 flex line between rail pieces to clear carburetor linkage. Sized a solid pipe in between them. Looks better and will flow better. Reinstalled and now re-plumbed the fuel lines. Throttle body and linkage installed.
Next up will be calibrating throttle position air inlet valve. Temp, air inlet temp switches and O2 sensor.
All in with this conversion. It's gonna work or it's gonna hit the trash.

Non start but overall not a failure.
All sensors calibrated, fuel system checked.
After nervous pacing and random delays messing with unimportant things, I finally got brave and attempted to start it.
Would occasionally kick but would not stay running more than a few seconds.
No backfires. Which is a huge plus.
Feels like it is running out of fuel in run mode. There is an enrichment for startup only.
Gonna put my tune out on the ms forum to hopefully get some pointers.
On a side note (I always have them) I purchased a Porsche 911 AC condenser. Porsche uses 2 that are located in the front of their inside fenders. It does fit up in there.
Will run 1 in each fender with electric fans and add an inner splash shield. The 2 added up will be as large as a single directly in front of radiator.
This will free up the radiator to help keep temps in control.

Great progress!   :alan2cents: check ASE and/or the ASE taper at the coolant temp, then WUE after ASE ends.  Might need to bump either of those up if the engine is dying after a few seconds of running. 
Are you YellowThumper on the MSExtra forums?  Will try to chime in on the thread if I find it.

I am Chal-74 on that forum.
Haven't posted much there. Have received minimal initial replies to posts and then crickets. Once I get it to idle I will then reach out again for more finite details.

Finally keeping the focus 100% for this has helped. As a 63yo, the light bulb stays off longer than it should. lol

Well, about 10 years after walking away in frustration, I finally fired it off today.
Still will not idle but I could keep it running.
Now all that's left is everything.

I did work on the ASE taper along with start primer.
Decided to regenerate a new fuel map as well.
Once that was burned in it fired right up.
Then I p :ohyeah: romptly had a beer.

Yeah!!  Startup is the most stressful. It's a great sound (and relief) to hear an engine roar to life.

So naturally after a bit of success,  I tear it down again to address a myriad of details.
Finishing ductwork from turbos to intercoolers.
Along with relocating water temperature sensors and adding back heater hose nipples. It has been without a heater for many years. Have now purchased Vintage air setup.
This down time will be short. But will allow for finishing numerous items.

Tear down has progressed further. All in the name of progress.
Steering gearbox decided to leak profusely after I R&R the column and coupler. Working on replacement now.
Additionally....
I went against my long standing plan to not cut any holes for this transition. Tons of extra work and compromises for this.
Utilizing the 2 inner headlight buckets for cold air intakes had to happen. Drivers side has the 2"x 4" core support opening. Passenger side does not. I punched and formed a matching hole on passenger side.
Welded pieces of angle iron as die side. Milled up an aluminum block for the form punch. Drilled four 5/16 thru holes. Kept them close diameter for alignment. Punch was tapered in front. Worked as a lead in and also self locating for the die side.
Worked like a charm and it looks factory.

Replaced steering gearbox.
Some engine side wiring cleaned up and relocated.
Tubing from turbos to intercoolers finished and connected.
Added a passenger side timing mark because the factory one is now hidden.
Drilled and tapped plenum for vacuum lines.
Added back previously removed heater hoses.
At this time the lower half is 100% complete.
Rerouted drivers side oil line to tuck it in neater.
Fuel programming and wiring cleanup will be the path for awhile.
Pics are a series of assembly to show how packed everything is. All assembly has to be completed in a specific order.
