A.G.A.R. The Last of the Sunroofs...Another one bites the dust...

Working on the shiny stuff, takes a little more time. Also finished the trunk assembly.
Tip#1 If you start an area of reassembly, keep on the area until it's done, or go as far as you can before it starts interfering with another area.
Tip#2 Be prepared and have all the parts you need in advance.
Tip#3 There are six contact points on each marker light housing. I hold the light and housing in place, mark where they come in contact with the quarter panel, then remove the light and grind all those points down to bare metal to insure a good ground.

Reproduction jack assembly from @TONY 's is a really nice piece and comes ready to install !

There's WAY TOO many unknowns and things that can go wrong. I will never tell a customer to "arrange transport" until the car is 100% finished and I've had a chance to drive it and put on some miles.

Day eight roughly a total of 50 hours.

It's been a couple of busy days in MY shop ;)

After completing the rear end of the car I moved to the front end and completed that as well.
Tip#1 Front end has to be done in order....headlights/wiring/grill/bumper/lower valance
Tip#2 Pre-assemble the bumper completely as well as the lower valance...goes much easier that way.

With the front end done it was a matter of the exterior trim, not a lot on this car...
Tip#3 If you have to drill holes, lots of masking tape and measuring first. I like using one of those step drill bits :alan2cents:

Finished the trim early today so I thought I would jump on my favorite part of all time :banana:

I went ahead and installed the side glass. :inlove:

Tip#1 Install everything in the doors and check first that all the latches and locks work. Leave off the front track
Tip#2 Can never have enough grease
Tip#3 Install the door glass with the front track.
Tip#4 I was missing the Philips head self tapping screws that hold the front of the horizontal track in place. I great replacement is the original type license plate screws although using a standard screwdriver is a bit more challenging.

Unfortunately here's where the side glass process has to stop due to the order in which things have to be assembled.

You can not install the interior panels until the glass is adjusted.
You can not adjust the glass until the side roof rail weather-strip is in place
You can not install the roof rail weather-strip until the headliner is in place
I can not install the headliner until the sunroof slider panel is in place and working properly
I can not install the sunroof slider panel until the vinyl top is done.
My guy will not install the windshield or back glass until the headliner is in.
I can't install the dash until the sunroof drain tubes and wiring is in...

still waiting but we have 60+ on order. First run last month the plant used the wrong terminals and or spacing. They also have had charging issues. They are in process of fixing that. So we are hopeful to have batteries at the end of the month.

Install went flawless today, my upholstery guy really liked the quality of the SMS top over the LAI tops he's installed in the past. Material was thinner, more pliable and easier to work with. Really like the fact that the rear window was NOT cut out because it was easier to pull into position.

My guy comes to MY shop to install the tops. The only difference between this and me having an "employee" to do the install is that my guy is the one making the money....he's not some guy just working for $15/hr Quality payment for quality work.  :twothumbsup:

Tip#1 Once you find the center in the windshield and the center in the rear window....use a chalk line to mark the center of the roof, or just a string and a marker will do.
Tip#2 find the center of the top by measuring between the seams

Right now the trim is just sitting there...Monday I'll finish the trim, install the drip rail moldings and then move on to the next stage. :twothumbsup:

Tip#1 Take a little black dum dum and wrap it around each trim stud that goes into the body, makes a great sealer
