I own A vary small body shop and have had customers request changing the color. I think if the body work is good, and you want to keep it red it would be easy to do.  Completely changing to A different color would cost more. You already have A good red base. And I have always rec amended using A color that A vehicle could have come with. Some colors on some cars just do not look right to me.   :alan2cents:

Trouble is red and purple Challengers and Cudas are everywhere. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one.

anything "exotic" about the original spec's of the Challenger R/T or is it a typical well OPTIONED 440HP 4bbl auto w/console, power steering, power brakes & A/C?  what interior and top  V1G "gator grain"?

Nothing "Exotic" here IMO. 440/ auto, 3:55 sure grip option, Buckets console Black int. PS/ PB A36 Hemi suspension with skid plate max cooling (kinda cool) No A/C, But does have all tinted glass? Not sure if this was standard? The car is just a very clean complete car with matching numbers and build sheet ETC. 15X7 Rallies' Bumper guards That's it.
I think I know where your going with this, yes not a Hemi or 440+6 or anything odd so ya, do what you will with it. All good. I am interested in opinions, what other guys thoughts are. Interested to hear mostly. I actually like the color it is now Non original and not a Chrysler color) So it may just get a clean up and drive it like it was meant to be driven before all this numbers matching stuff started lol  Thoughts..

Yes: I think that car is a bit cooler than you realize. There is absolutely nothing wrong with cleaning up what is there and driving it as-is for awhile. Do you know that it is rarer than a 440 Six Pack?

Ya, I am starting to lean towards just cleaning it up and running it the way it is...really I am thinking , what's to gain changing the color again when it wont be the original color anyway? Rarer than a six-pack car? I better check production numbers, I thought the last time I looked it was 1,800 or so 440 cars? Interesting. Thank you for your thoughts!

it's the '70  'cuda that 440HP 4bbl is RARER than 6bbl

1970 Challenger R/T 440HP 4bbl w/auto & 3.55 axle package ~437 cars *
FT6 "dark tan metallic" ~219 cars *

* (~92% of  14,889 total 1970 production JS23s accounted for)

Hey thanks, wow that is low....I found production numbers but not a break down on color ETC. Very cool and yes the number is low...Ft6 even lower (for a reason I assume color was not overly popular) Where can I find this break down, Google is my friend? lol.... IM learning more about this car everyday!

Marksmopar1

Thanks for the break down re-colors...
Curious to the break down numbers Engine, trans, axles option, color..ETC al together.
The numbers were mentioned in a post above but where did this come from, where can it be found?
The breakdown of everything about the car is interesting.

6bblgt

the drivetrain combination numbers are from the US spec. Options & Accessory Report

which I have not seen published anywhere - and are often mis-represented/quoted - as they do NOT cover the entire production year

is your R/T a Y07 "CANADA spec." car?)

:unbelievable: :unbelievable: Wow!! Are those actual production numbers? FC7 was actually the most popular by a lot.? I sure wouldn't have guessed that.  8)

Amazing that every 5th or 6th Challenger convetrible to roll off the assembly line was painted purple :o :looney: That's just crazy to think about...

yes, FC7 was a very popular 1970 Dodge musclecar color, it was the most common color on:

JS23 Challenger R/T
JS27 Challenger R/T convertible
JS29 Challenger R/T SE
LM23 Swinger 340
WM21 Super Bee coupe
WM23 Super Bee hardtop
WS27 Coronet R/T convertible
XS29 Charger R/T

everything except

WS23 Cornet R/T hardtop, where it was #2 behind FK5 "dark burnt orange metallic"
