At what point would you need a frame jig?

When is a Fram jig required? Do you need it when replacing the floor? I assume when tackling the trunk and quarters it will be required?

I use one any time I'm removing a panel that ISNT held on only by bolts. Unibody says it all.

i use mine on every car i do. it makes the metal process painless. and only after i put my cars on a rotisserie.

Well, ever the contrarian; I replaced the fri inner aprons, rt front frame rail, firewall and cowl, front floor, both door hinge pillars, the outer 1/4's as well as the outer and inner wheel houses and the trunk floor- on the floor or on the rotisserie. It'd probably be easier to replace things like the 1/4s' one at a time and keep the weight on the suspension as you do it. Just like in carpentry, measure twice-nay 3 times- and cut/weld once. You don't have to make this more difficult than it needs to be. Good luck  :cheers:

It would be great to have a body jig anytime major metal replacement is done but in reality you don`t really need one most of the time, I`ve seen some pretty major rebuilds using nothing more than tape measures and tram gages. As said measure, measure, measure, fit, fit , fit(adjacent panels) before melting metal together.  :ohyeah:

I'm looking at a project that might require a jig. Any pictures of what people have made. What would be the key points on the jig.

A mig, an eye for measuring, a load of 2" angle, HF castors, a portaband, 4" side grinder and a quart of rustoleum is all you need. I used 3" because I had some laying around.

I was looking at a car with the full quarters cut out , tail panel and the outer wheel wells removed. Guess it should have already been in a jig. Wonder if it has shifted already as it is sitting on the suspension

You know, brain surgery is just knowing when and where to cut. It is easy to speak Chinese if you are from China. Experience ........ As said earlier, it is a uni-body construction.  Like working on a house and removing a load bearing wall without reinforcing the are first.  Feel lucky ??

I have a jig.  I have not used it yet but have one.
I can get some pictures if someone needs a pic of a home made jig.
