It appears that my drivers side door latch on my '71 Cuda is not fully securing the door when closed.  When closed and latched,  I can push in on the door hear the sound of the door latch hitting the striker when released. It does not do this on the passenger side.  When driving,  it is a very annoying continuous rattle.

I have tried moving the striker into virtually every position with no results.   I have all of the correct door pads/weather striping in place.  The striker and latch do not appear to be seriously worn, but who knows,  they are original parts.

Unless there is something I have not tried,  I'm thinking of replacing the striker and latch.  Strikers are available.  Refurbished latches do not appear to be.  It seems the  guys that would do the refurbishment are all retired.   I could buy a used latch,  but it might be worse than mine.

Suggestions?   Thanks!

This reminds me of a friends Mopar that was having a similar issue. He had adjusted & lubed the latch but it wouldn't engage the latch completely. I noticed that the inner door handle seemed to not return completely so I sprayed it with a good penetrating  lubricant. After working the inner handle a few times the issue was resolved.  :alan2cents:

@BluRaySRT These door latches are a 2 stage latch. Before you remove all your linkage and the latch itself, check to see if the lever moves freely by hand. You may need to spray lots of lubricant to loosen up old dried out grease. You should clearly have 2 different positions the lever clicks into. Use the outer door handle to open the latch and your finger to operate the lever. Usually just a really good cleaning and oiling makes them like new.

Yes: Make sure there are 2 clicks and not just 1 when you close the door. The post probably has to be moved out a bit.

Problem solved!   A well worn door striker was causing the rattle!  It's so great to drive without that annoying noise!
