I have a 74 challenger rallye and contacted David to get some nice new bumpers. I was told from the guy I bought it from that 72 bumpers were put on when it was painted. I took some pics of the bumper brackets and it isn't a "Y" shape, it's a single right arm. Please see pics. I also noticed the front bumper is only attached with two bolts. Are you guys able to help and validate if these are in fact 72 bumpers? My suspicion is he "bubba jobbed" it and put 72 bumpers on 74 brackets. So I guess another question/statement is should I just buy new 70-72 brackets with the new bumpers? I am not seeing how only two bolts is very secure. Just want to make sure I'm on the right path. Oh and I am finding out that being on the right path is an expensive path.  :haha:

72 bumpers should sit flush , the 73-74 brackets push the bumpers out quite a bit so it would be better to have 72 brackets , the earlier years used 2 bolts on in each rail , 73-74 went to 3 bolts

If I remember correctly, you could move the 73-74 frt brkts in and re-drill a hole to make them go on, but the outer arm (the Y so to speak) would not work and it looks to me like that's what buddy did. The pics don't show the side fit nor upper bmpr surfaces too well, but I think your car has the later bmper rigged to fit close like the 72's. That's just my  :alan2cents: and there are many others who know more than I.

If it's anything like a Cuda I'd say you have a 74 front bumper on looking at the hole on the top side of the bumper. That would bolt to the bracket. I had the complete opposite when I bought bumpers for the Cuda I'm working on.

What you currently have is a 1974 front bumper. Looks like someone removed the rebar and the inner bumper brackets. Re-drilled or slotted the outer bumper bracket to move the bumper back towards the body.

Your best bet, if you want to change it...Buy new 1970-72 Bumper brackets and 70-71 bumper and be done with it....
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....
