Looking like F8 or FF4 then. On this car, my thought was to spray the underside, trunk, interior and engine compartment myself with a single stage paint myself but let a pro spray the outside. I can get a nice finish on less important, less seen areas and save some expense but my work would never be good enough for the outside.

It sounds like F8 really needs to be a two stage with lots of clear to really make the color pop and keep it looking good year after year. Is that pretty much the case if I go with original shades of green?

Given this idea, will I run into issues painting single stage in some areas but two stage outside? I don't want it to look like two different shades when I'm done. I could go with a two stage everywhere but it's a lot more work and expense for areas not exposed to daylight.

Single stage and BCCC will be like night and day. I'm currently working on mine and will use the same BCCC through the entire project. Single stage on metallic paint doesn't end well in my experience. Perhaps a pro would disagree. @Cuda Cody is a good input on this also. He may even disagree with me, but you need to get solid input before proceeding on this. I have the formula for EF8 in PPG Deltron, but the stuff is insanely expensive.

@70Challengerlover Chances are it won't match.  :alan2cents:

Yeah, I may just have to bite the bullet then. I plan to do what I can on a rotisserie. I could still squirt the two stage everywhere but outside. More work and expense but I think I can get it to look nice.

I always BCCC everywhere. There is really no reason to go single stage other than a bit cheaper I suppose.

Yes, single stage metallic paint is super hard to spray out without a bunch of tiger stripes and blotches.

I had painted my car 5 different colors since I owned it. My final restoration I went back to the original F4.

@Huskidrive care to share a fender tag from that beauty? So much like one I sold decades ago...

Nice! And a 4 speed car. Yep, no chance it was my old one. Mine was a JS23U0B automatic that I regretfully sold in 87. A pic is posted earlier in this thread. If you see one, connect me if you think of it.

The 3 speed blew a year after I got the car. My friend had a 4 speed laying in his garage and gave it to me. It's been a 4 speed since 1975.......

Probably 90% of the D13 cars out there have four speeds in them now  :burnout: :bigthumb:

I thought maybe I'd goofed on the 4 versus 3 after posting. Pretty rare.
