72-74 linkage-

If the motor is a different part # you'll have to re-clock it-

Look at the diagram you'll find a line going to a bushing in the center its a Melamine tube and is needed for all E Body motors 70-72
3431077 3431534 3431624 or anything used as replacement

@Ns1aar  I do not understand. What diagram are you referring to?

@Jay Bee  I tried it with nothing but the 293 link connected to the LH pivot.   It still does not reach.  The pivot turns as far CCW as it possibly can and the link is still too long.

One other observation.  The firewall sheet metal has some puckering under the wiper motor.  Is this normal or is this an indication of possible collision damage? Maybe the motor is not in the right place compared to the pivot mounts.

Taking a big step back here - did you replace your cowl by any chance???

GoMangoBoys

I did not replace the cowl.  It does not look like anyone else did either.  There WAS collision damage to the RH end of the cowl that I fixed.

Dmod1974

I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.  So nothing that would have altered the wiper pivot location in relation to the wiper motor mounting then?

GoMangoBoys

The location of the motor relative to the pivots has not changed since we owned the car.  I know I removed the pivots and linkages and I removed the previous motor, but I don't recall if they were connected when we bought the car.

Jay Bee

What a mystery. I converted a 2 speed to variable speed using the same linkages and crank that you are and mine fit like a glove. Only difference, my motor is a 3431077, which shouldn't make any difference.

Tomorrow, when I'm on my desktop, I'll send a picture of an "077" with the cap off. I think it's time to consider something may be off with your rebuilt motor. The linkages are all the correct ones.

I believe the diagram Ns1aar is referring to is the pictorial sketch on one of the previous pages.

Jay Bee

I've been watching your YouTube video over and over and something is sticking with me. Just before it stops it looks like the crank does a little extra "jog" to left, right about the same amount as the 293 is off. I don't know if that's normal or not but it just seemed odd to me. Maybe that's just because the motor's output shaft is off center.

I might have to get ambitious and dismantle mine to see if it's like yours.

John, can't you just video record yours in action ?
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

@Jay Bee I know nothing, but I ASSumed that this was the motor parking with the wipers concealed.  This is why I posted the video so that someone could tell me that this motion and parking location WAS or WAS not normal.

Every single one I've assembled, I have the crank arm attached to the transmission arm first, then with the wiper motor installed I put the crank arm on and let the nut draw it in place  :dunno:

I have a fence to fix today, maybe if I have time.

I'm in the same boat as you, also wish someone else would have chimed in on your video

I have a local buddy that's an expert on these motors, before he screws on the cap he checks the things I wrote on the picture.

GoMangoBoys

Well, I was feeling a little frustrated and desperate, so I went ahead and connected the linkage when the motor was not at park.  It seemed to work well, except when It does go to park, there It seems to have a pretty good bind.  I am concerned that it will wear out prematurely if I leave it as is.

I also tried clocking the cover plate to change tha park position.  It helped some, but not enough.
