So it's listed with a convertible VIN, and states "Rebodied". This could get interesting!

Cars are rebodied all the time, be thankful somebody chose to disclose it with this car :dunno:
What's the big deal...just don't buy it if that's not your thing :alan2cents:

Problem is...thing started out probably as a /6 or 318 car.

340 car was trashed.  Or worse, VIN and FT are fake!

I wouldn't touch that car for more than $10k.

I've always wondered what would stop an unscrupulous individual from going to a show, choosing a car he really likes, photograph thefender tag, VIN tag, window sticker, door VIN sticker and /or broadcast sheet, cowl and radiator support stamped numbers and duplicate the car?  If it's a rare car,  but not , say a hemi convertible,  he might get away with it.. All the documents  and tags can be reproduced and sheet metal can be stamped and welded in so the average collector could get screwed over. The owner of the original car would have to pay to show the other car is a fake. Isn't this what has happened to some of the rare Camaros and Mustangs, etc.? Just wondering.

This is why I get pissed when I see someone taking a photo of my datatag and other areas.

the odds of someone making a "numbers exact clone" of your car are pretty slim - there are easier scams out there
IMO the more people that know what's real & what's not, helps the hobby.  the cars with the strongest registries are among the most valuable: Shelbys & wing cars come to mind in the muscle car world

this Charger R/T https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Dodge-Charger-R-T-SE-/173840291485?_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true
was built around a VIN tag ONLY that was sold on eBay about 10 years ago
the current configuration is built to someone's desire to build a valuable car to sell

wonder if anyone lost their sunroof Charger in the past 10 years?  :foul:

the BAT auction conversation is getting interesting after the "rebody" question arrived & the seller claiming you can't rebody a uni-body car  :o

the 2009 & 2019 Barrett-Jackson auctions both show "REBODIED"

Rust bucket /6 or 318 cars sell for more than $10k.  This would be a steal for that price, even rebodied this should sell for what it is at $30K+.

If the VIN number on the title matches the one on the car, there's not much to figure out. :dunno:

Not to  :deadhorse: to death
This is a legal source of information at Cornell U. that I have referenced professionally over the last 20 years.
US Federal Code regarding altering and removing motor vehicle ID numbers:

Interesting reading!

Part of this federal statute always pissed me off;
If someone switches the VIN numbers on a stolen vehicle and sells the car, the buyer must have knowledge that the car was stolen or is held harmless.

I researched this years back when I had a 1971 Challenger RT 383 4 sp car blue on blue stolen in 1989.  Car was never recovered.  It was just painted and was in beautiful condition.  Still have the title and paperwork on the car.

the purchaser that unknowingly bought a retagged stolen car is held harmless on the theft (not criminally liable), he will however lose the car to the proper owner

Until word gets around someone switched the VIN plate.......I have witnessed the feds paying a body shop to literally take a car apart to prove it was not a legit car..........at the very least you loose the car and at worst you have to explain it to your lawyer
