Great information you provided in this thread. So interesting for one of the greatest muscle cars of all time.

I sold my soul and 71 Cuda for a swimming pool when I down sized and moved to FL
Jesus please forgive me.

Don't feel bad Matt, that looks like a nice trade off...I've had several inquiries on selling my 71 Cuda and my answer has always been "I'll sell it when I'm ready to buy my beach house".

Thanks everyone for all the great info and insight provided in this thread!  Really helps me get a sense of what I have.

One last question...I have a Holley 4160 Carb on the car which I believe to be original.  It is stamped List 6909  2177

I'm a little suspicious the carb may have been changed at some point because all the pics I've seen of other 383s show the fuel line entering at a upward angle on the front driver's side of the carb.  My carb has the fuel line entering at a right angle from the side.  Could it be due to the shaker option the carb has a different fuel line entry point/connection?

This is where your broadcast sheet will come in handy. It will tell you the code that will lead you to the exact number on the carb. On yours now, the 2117 could be a date code for 217 day of 1977  :dunno:

According to Galens book I came up with list #4735

Line #4 on Broadcast sheet shows CARB 42 ...and that means?

I do think the carb I have is a replacement....close but not correct.  It has an electric choke and I know from the previous owner at one time he put a 2 barrel Holley on the car  (GASP!!) to try an improve gas mileage during the gas crisis so your 217 day of 1977 makes sense.

There is a R4735 core for sale on Ebay with a 2190 date code (if that matters).
Not mine.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=holley+4735&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=holley+4160

Saw that listed earlier today ...If I'm correct the date code puts it somewhere in July of 1970 which I think is a bit early for my April 1, 1971 build date.  At $299 plus another $499 for Scott Harms restore/rebuild service I think I'm gonna' wait for one with a date code within 6 months of my build date.  even if I have to pay a little more....Now that I know what I'm looking for!

Thanks
I was able to slide into this V-Code RR after I landed.
I would move this car along for the right E Body. I am looking for a 340 4-speed car.
