Good morning to all,    Today I am removing the axles to replace the bearings for the disc brake conversion. I will also remove the differential housing to inspect that all is well. There is no tag to tell me what gears are inside of there. I need to know details to identify what gear ratio I have. Any other particular specifics I should pay extra attention to would be appreciated. If I don't like what I find, I will rebuild the whole thing (although, I am hoping to find good things since I am pretty sure this car was a bracket racer in it's previous life).

The ratio is normally stamped on the edge of the ring gear.

If you have some oddball aftermarket gears and it isn't stamped (never seen one that wasn't stamped) you can count the teeth on both the ring gear and the pinion to get the ratio.

You can rotate the axle one full turn and count the revolutions of the pinion yoke....that will tell you the gear ratio as well :alan2cents:
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

That only works if it is a sure-grip diff...

If it is an open diff the pinion will turn twice as much.

If the diff is coming out anyway, easiest to just look at the ring gear.
