I was watching this video that Rocket Restorations dropped on Youtube yesterday and it rang a bell as one I'd seen listed some time back that someone posted a link to on a forum.  I recalled looking at the link the person had posted on it and when I saw the picture of the fender tag said to myself (and quickly responded to the thread) "wait what?? an AAR built in October and painted a color that wasn't available for until 4 or 5 months later?  Who are they trying to fool?"
So I was surprised to see Toms video that the car is still circulating and been through 2 major auctions.  I dug through my picture folders and found a picture I'd saved of the tag when I saw that post I am referring to, and the datestamp on the image is from 7-1/2 years ago!  I just searched the VIN on the interweb expecting to find posts on the car being a fake but only found it referred to in auction listings, so am putting it in the header here in hopes it can be found in the future by potential buyers uneducated on AARs enough to not know they didn't make them until early 1970, not fall of '69!!

I saw a video not long ago that said AARs had rolled rear fender lips and the 6th strobe stripe forward of Cuda was a little wider than those on each side. True ?

From what I've been able to figure out, AARs were supposed to have rolled inner fender aka 15" fenders, but in the end some did, some didn't.
T/As were supposedly going to have them but I've never seen one that had them.
I don't know anything about the stripe issue.

I have been looking for an original paint aar fender with the rolled lip for some years.  I want a wall hanger so a damaged one is fine.

As far as I can tell, some got the fenders and some didn't.
The black argent grills were also hit and miss it seems.
Would love to learn some rhyme or reason why they did or didn't receive the aar parts.  Always read it was just availability issues.

My AAR didn't have the rolled fender lips.

As far as the stripes go an original stripe could have a wider 6th from the end strobe, but that would be the exception. I have 2 sets of NOS stripes, one on the car and an extra set and they don't have the wider strobe.

Remember that NOS stripes are not factory installed stripes, they would most likely be manufactured after the production run. This argument arises from time-to-time but I will encourage you to do some comprehensive research on your own to draw a conclusion

Good timing for this video being released while the subject of AAR stripes is being discussed here

Well the video made certainly refers to our conversation. He was adamant the finding was incorrect and pointed to his NOS stripe with a 1978 or 79 date on the box as evidence. Now years later claims he's done the research on "original stripe cars". He's a good guy and I have little doubt he's gathered a lot of information and believes what he states, as do I. I also remember him telling the story of (the polished vs brushed argument) a car delivered with polished trim rings that the original owner swore was delivered on the car until his friend reminded him they had replaced them with parts counter trim rings after brushing a curb. My point is that some will claim "factory" because they used a MOPAR authorized parts counter part.  Sometimes memories fade on what's happened, and sometimes NOS from the period isn't as factory delivered. MOPAR parts counter NOS will likely carry the correct 3M texture but MAY not carry the identical stripe cut. This issue of NOS not being factory correct is not limited to AAR Stripes.

If what I state is true many who have paid dearly for NOS stripes believing they are exactly as factory stripes may find their investment devalued. Be weary of a self serving position one may have when $$ are involved.

There are other variations in the factory stripes I keep a little closer to the vest but point to the 6th stripe as an easy to identify marker. The majority of folks will never notice the stripe irregularities and only after being told do they notice the lack of uniformity. I don't make or sell these and only point to it as a reminder of history out of a love for these cars.

At this point with so many incorrect stripes having been installed most have become accustomed to the uniformity and don't realize these stripes were not perfect when delivered on 1970 AAR's. With no mention and enough time we jeopardize losing history.

Many of the reproductions are almost perfect, computer generated perfect, nice and equally spaced, they do not make the cars any less beautiful but they aren't factory correct.

Choose what you will to believe, keep an open mind and research yourself to arrive at a conclusion.

If there is one thing we have learned is never say never on these old cars - production line changes, different vendors, mistakes that may have been fixed or just deemed acceptable, cars that shouldn`t exist but do etc.. We can only draw conclusions based on what is known at the time and the actual truth may never be known. I do agree that memories are not always 100% accurate so not really a good basis for information.

I watched that video the other as well - pretty bad job of making a fake AAR.
