I thought this was interesting.....

DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler is moving production of heavy-duty trucks from Mexico to Michigan and paying bonuses to US workers in response to the passage of US tax reform late last year.

The automaker will invest $1 billion in its Warren Truck Assembly Plant to make the Ram Heavy Duty Truck starting in 2020. That truck is currently made in Saltillo, Mexico, where workers will continue to make commercial vehicles.

FCA says the Warren plant will add 2,500 new jobs.

Odd that I never seen this in the media? That's pretty positive big news!

this is pretty huge news when it comes about and is finalized. since they have closed production on the 200. they have added and renovated that plant to accommodate the ram. It will be interesting to see if they shift all production or part of. All 2500 and up models are built in mexico.

I wonder if the talk of dropping out of or renegotiating NAFTA had something to do with this also?
My work moved the majority of our class 8 truck manufacturing to Mexico over the years.
They closed the class 8 plant in Canada around 10 years ago due to problems with the CAW union, and the class 8 plant in Texas around 5 years ago while under economic distress. Our mothballed 2nd line at the sole remaining US plant is now back up and running building trucks under a partnership with GM and line 1 is pretty busy building medium duty and a few severe service trucks, so there really isn't any way for us to move the production back short of building a new plant.

I've not heard anything in the news either.   So I just googled it myself...

You don't see it in the news because it's something positive that has come about since Trump took office, along with your improving economy etc... The reporters only like to concentrate on when he uses curse words in a meeting :looney:

We can stop there so that we don't get political on this board. :stop:

You've got a valid point there.  I mentioned my work and media bias recently came to my attention first hand recently through that.  My large Chicago area company has been struggling for years, and I've accumulated a small pile of clippings from the Chicago Tribune business section from when I started there in 2012 about us losing tons of money, shutting plants, lawsuits, layoffs etc.
So about a month ago, it was announced that we had our first profitable year since 2011!  Our markets share has made a notable improvement, employees are getting a nice bonus, stock up close to 300% for the year, customers seem to be raving about our trucks!  What a remarkable turnaround for a long struggling company with roots in the Chicago area dating back to the 1800's. Front page article of the business section for sure, maybe front page of the paper right??
So I get my paper the day after the announcement, nothing, zero, not even a paragraph buried away in the business section.
I wrote the paper shortly afterward as a long time subscriber asking why this was ignored, crickets.
I guess good news is not news these days....

Bad or inflammatory news seems to be the lead stories nowadays. There's lots of good news out there but for some reason it doesn't get reported or is relegated to the back half of the paper..
The plant moving back to Michigan would be "HUGE" -  say that in a Trump voice..lol I can't see Trump not hyping that up.

The fact it is not widely reported does make me wonder if the deal is done though?

This is good news as I work for a OEM supplier and we shipped parts to Saint Louis, MO. Fenton truck plant when it closed with no warning other than to move more production to Mexico. The plant was huge with minivans and trucks were being built there when closed. It built B-body cars years ago so there are many Mopar gear heads in the saint louis area.

Good news and great to hear. Too bad the mainstream media won't hype it like they do some other "shithole" items, eh?
