After about 3 different excursions to my local DMV I finally got what I have been looking for.

That looks like the old plates from back in the day!  They are giving CA cars new "old" style custom plates?   :unbelievable:   It looks very period correct and love the name.    :burnout:

I hate that anyone can go get black plates on their new SUV..... I like them on Classic cars but honestly while they look good they don't belong on a 70 model year vehicle... 69 was the last year for black plates on passenger cars....

:iagree: MY first car - used in 1984, It was sold new & first registered in August of '69 "ZUY 310" from Frank Lincoln-Mercury  National City, CA - close to the end, not much of the alphabet left at that point

Nice!

I have had the tag "MOPAR" since 1980 on my cuda.

If a CA car was bought new in Aug of 1969 would it have gotten the older black plate or the newer style?  :dunno:

I like the way it blends with the rear tail panel. It's much more period correct than many other cars on the road sporting them.

It's all about the Benjamins Wild.

Depends on which DMV handled the paperwork.... If the car was purchased in LA where there's a high volume of new car registrations it would be Blue.... If it came from an area like Jackson it could go either way....

Basically license plated were supplied to DMV offices in bundles, depending on the expected volume those bundles could be 100-500 plates & if an office like Sonora got 100 black plates at the very end of the run it could take them 9 months or more to register 100 new cars...Where-as an LA area DMV could move 500 plates in 3 months....

I do know of one E body that legitimately wears it's original black plates....

Awsome
Agree with most statements that the black plates look wrong on most newer cars. Probably because I am old enough to remember back then...

As for the frame.
If you can read this you are in second place.

I bought some black plates for my car this year.  Love that black plate on the black tail panel.  And yours looks great.  I just wish I could paint the yellow plate lettering body color but that's a good way to busted by the CHP.
