Can I remove the fuel filler neck on my 73 challenger from inside the trunk, without dropping the fuel tank?
I'm wanting to replace the rubber seal that seals the pipe to the trunk floor.

No: You will have to lower the tank about 6 inches. You might want to buy new fuel tank j-bolts and nuts before the job.

I'm pretty sure that during assembly, I installed the tank first and then tried to install the filler neck.  No go.  I had to loosen the straps and lower the tank to get the tube in.

Just installed my tank and yes it had to be lowered slightly to get the tube started in and it takes some finagling to guide it through the trunk boot and the grommet at the same time particularly if they are new.  I put some silicone grease on everything; and once the tank was all the way up I was still working the tube in.  I did it alone but having a buddy would help.
