I'm looking at purchasing a new gas tank. It's for a '71 Barracuda.  I want the 4 vent side style which came with the car.  It will be setup with a carb. Not sure on the sending unit right now.  I see that there are several types of material. They have stainless, ni-tern, and zinc. Some vendors are selling the Spectra Premium. Not sure what material is being used for the Spectra Premium? I was searching the site and someone mentioned the existing fuels maybe a factor?  How shiny is the stainless?  I want it close to original as possible.

When I needed a new Spectra gas tank for my 71 Challenger 8 or 9 years ago, I don't recall if there were multiple choices for material.  Mine did look original though.
I got the best deal from Rock Auto then maybe Roseville is same price but either way both are sponsors.

You definitely don't need stainless. Go with a good stock replacement and then replace it in another 40 years!

:iagree: That's exactly what I would do because in 40 years we'll have flying cars with no gas tanks anyway  :haha:

Checking the Roseville site.  Is the "Galvinized" aka Galvanized tank either zinc or ni-terne or stainless?  Also, not sure on the sending unit.  Guessing I can't go wrong with the larger 3/8 sending unit for either big block or small block.

Just some thoughts on this; I purchased the fuel tank, pad, hangers, j hooks, and sending unit separately.  Looking back, I would have purchased this package from Roseville; all in one and no hassles IMO. I purchased a Specta gas tank CR8B. Nice tank (Canadian made); was described as having "NI Terne steel with corrosion protection. The cost of buying the components separate exceeded the price of the Roseville deal.  I preferred a stock looking tank; personally I would stay away from stainless.
I believe that Roseville will give a choice of size with the sending units.

Anyway JMO
Good luck with what you decide.

The size of your sending unit should match your main fuel line. No sense having a 3/8" sender if your fuel line is 5/16" :alan2cents:

5/16 sending unit for small and big block, except 440-6 and Hemi. They use 3/8.
You should match the sending unit size to the hard fuel lines you are connecting it to.

Before installing the new sending unit, I would check it with an OHM meter.
The factory units will have a range of 10-70 ohms.

I forgot to mention that I need to purchase new fuel lines.  Whether I go small block of big block, it won't be stock.  I'm thinking about the larger fuel lines/sending unit.

While at Carlisle, I picked up a Spectra Premium from Ted Stephens.
