I imagine those prices were a lot back then....Not like a $80K Hellcat is today, but still a lot... :bigmoney:

I will take 10 of the Challengers even they are the same color.
1973 Challenger Rallye, 416 AT
2012 Challenger SRT8 6 speed Yellow Jacket

My cousin bought a new 1970 Road Runner back then for that price. She then started having kids and the 4 speed was not a good family car so I bought it off her in 1972 for $1100. Cars were just not that expensive back then. I bought my first car in 1970, a 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint, for $35.

Dollar inflation calculator puts $4,275 for the Challenger with 426 at a 2020 USD amount of $28,515.90!

You're right Alan! In 1971 I started in the body shop at $2.00/hr or the princely sum of $80 per week, before tax, and you ended up with about $57 after deductions. So, that $4275 was 75 weeks worth of income; and you'd have to live under a bridge and eat dog turds because you had zero dinars left. We won't even factor in insurance, gas, maintenance, rent, booze or girls and now you know why I don't own a nice 71 Hemi Cuda! They weren't cheap then, and they're not cheap now!  :bigmoney:
In the immortal words of Jimmy Scott- "pace yourself!"

Also to factor in, is all the standard equipment that you get now with your new car.  I have one of those Hellcats and its not an 80k car but people like me keep buying them.  Lol
