I thought for sure someone would have posted this one by now. It's been posted around lots...

I am pretty sure this is the dealer that ordered the only Hemi Superbird  ever delivered  to Canada [RM23R0A161544 a yellow 4 speed].  Laurentian motors in Sudbury made a dealer trade with them to get this Superbird which they later regretted.

This is what happened, Laurentian motors received a brand new orange 440 Superbird auto on the column. This 440 Superbird while still on the transport at Laurentian was spotted by an individual who bought it on the spot! Laurentian now figured that these Superbirds were real hot sellers so they checked the Ontario dealers to see who had one in stock and made a dealer trade with the Rexdale dealer to get the Hemi.

The car ended up in Laurentians show room. I looked at the car many times the MSRP on the window sticker was $7,200cdn which was huge money in 1970. Car sat for about a year when a kid living across the road pushed a wheel and tire down a mountain toward the dealership. Tire rolled across the road at a high speed crashing into Laurentian Motors showroom window and into the Superbird.

The Superbird was damaged by the tire and the broken glass. Laurentian had to repaint the Bird but in hopes of improving their chance of selling it, they painted the  car purple complete with a very unattractive wide black V stripe down its side. This was such a quickie paint job that when standing behind the car after it was painted you could still see the yellow paint inside the fender vents.

About a year or so later they finally sold the car at a loss. This car is still in the Sudbury and still wearing this purple paint job!

How is it that this yellow Superbird lost it's original Hemi ?

I found the block at a friends house in Rockwood ON. :canada:
I also helped my buddy sell his Hemi Challenger project at the time with the Superbird's block.

The new owner from NY reached out to the current Superbird owner (with help of Nigel Mills) and offered the original numbers matching block....The guy said the Superbird had a Hemi in it and that's all that mattered, he didn't care about the "number's matching crap". :unbelievable:
From what I understand the Superbird is in pretty rough shape. :alan2cents:

The original engine was blown early on and was replaced under warranty by a friend of mine which at the time was an apprentice mechanic at Laurentian Motors. Chrysler did not request to have the block returned so it went out the back door at Laurentian. The replacement Hemi was also blown [spun of bearing] by the present owner who replaced it with a 383. He still has the replacement Hemi. Yes this car was poorly stored for many years. Speedo shows under 10,000 miles which owner says is original?

Cool story(s) for sure. Too bad the current owner will never do anything with the car :'(

Not advertisement but a cool road test video on the 1971 Challenger.

Watching "Better Call Saul", a Breaking Bad spinoff with the lawyer (Bob Odenkirk). Good show. In a 70's flashback I saw this ad in a Playboy.
Looks like a Challenger ad. Cant read all of it, the focus is on the boy.
Is this for real? "Get A Rise" ?  :haha:

That's pretty neat.   We are just finishing watching the Break Bad series.  We're having a watch party with a bunch of friends that have not watched too.  We all watched the first 5 episodes together and now we're going to watch the last 5 together on May 27th.  So don't ruin the ending for me.  Love that show.  I think we'll watch the Better Call Saul next.  Is it good too?

That Superbird story is cool. Reminds me of my 69 Hemi GTX I restored years ago. The longtime owner of it talked to me and I asked him what happened to the original engine. He responded that it blew up and nothing was left of it. I quizzed him every which way I could and he kept saying the engine was totally destroyed blah, blah, blah. About a decade after I sold the car I found the original engine in a faked 70 Road Runner that had it`s Vin changed from N to R. I`d still own that car if I had found that darn engine (it was in the same town I lived in at the time too).

It's not as good as Breaking Bad, (that one of the best TV shows I've seen) but worth watching, a lot of the characters from Breaking bad are in it, it's about Saul before Breaking Bad happened.

Love the ads from the 70's.  My favorites were the ones from Dodge with the scat pak bee in them. What a super cool logo.
