With the announcement of the new vette and mustang, it is becoming more obvious how much distance in performance is between Mopar and Chevy/Ford.

The Shelby GT500 is 760 hp, and was rumored to have undergone some tweaks to increase the hp after the Redeye was announced at 797.

The new vette is only 495 hp which was shocking low to me. And what's with the wipers?

(Shaking my head...) I can't help but wonder if GM is in trouble?  They don't make one car I'd buy. In the 70's and 80's they made lots of good cars, I drove a few of them as daily drivers for over 30 years now . Actually I'm just this month retiring my 1986 Chev G20 service van.  The trucks are just OK same for the Suburban/Tahoe but the price of them is insane! Our 2007 Suburban is tired and rotted out, looked at replacements. By the time your out the door they want almost 100K for a Chev Suburban! Seriously! Like what could you possibly do to a Suburban to make it worth that kind of money . One I can't afford that, 2 even if I could I'd have serious issues paying that for one! They are all worth the same in about 15 years and thats 100 bucks a ton at the wrecker.  :looney:
The new vette looks like a total flop to me already! Looks like a cheap copy of a Ferrari? Stop trying to be European. If I wanted a European car I'd buy a BMW or Mercedes and not use my turn signals. They seem to have lost the "American Sportscar" feel IMO    They last few years looked much better IMO , mind you I never have been much of a fan of any vette. They have always been parts cars for hotrods in my books so I guess I'm a little biased . I've driven a couple and .... well just didn't impress me much? I'd much rather a 1st or 2nd gen Viper over any Vette made.
I think I'm "done" with GM especially after taking all that/our bailout money and then closing all the plants.  :bye:

Chryco Psycho

I was done with GM back in 82 with my second & last ever GM
Taking bailout $$ & leaving is the final straw !

She might be 11 years old now but she's packing 600. I don't need all the fancy dials and knobs inside that the Vette has either.

Very nice!

That's still the base model Corvette, is it not? Certainly the Z06 and ZR1 will pack significantly more punch.

I love my Mopars, but the I'm not sure comparing a hellcat to a Corvette will come out in our favor when turning becomes involved...

Agreed; I was going to buy a Hellcat until I drove one and then a Viper right after. The Viper felt a ton better all around, I'm sure the new Vettes will drive even better, I wonder what their weight is. They were talking about a ZO6 or something engine with louder exhaust but not much more power.

So if you're classifying the vette as a "super car" and not a "muscle car", it still fails in comparison to the Viper at 645 hp and 600 lb-ft tq for the SRT not to mention the ACR. Rumors are Mopar is bringing it back too.

Ha: I think the Stingray should be a relative bargain at the price they plan to sell it for though.

Isn't the current ZR1 around 750hp/700tq?

I'm not sure putting a base Corvette up to a Viper is apples-to-apples.

No GM fan here either, but Chevy says 495 hp stock with a 0-60 in 3 seconds flat. Car looks very European/Japanese...fugly.

To each their own.   Personally, i think the new 2020 vette looks are simply AWESOME...  When i first saw it I thought it was a new Lamborghini model.    0-30 in 3 seconds flat for under $60K in the base model  :Dis downright awesome.   :crazytalk: Wish i could afford one.

IRON MAN

I watched the debut of the 2020 Corvette. The President of General Motors said there will be a twin- turbo 6.2L producing over 1000 horse power! The 2020 Stingray curb  weight is only 3600 lbs and dry weight 3366....should be lightening fast.
GM Pres Mark Reuss said we can go on line and reserve one. So I did go on line and there is no pricing other than the base model will be under $60K. The 2020 Corvette is/will be  the only mid-engine car built in america, and she's gorgeous!!!.
