Well, again got schooled and forgot about this.... I have read about the unfinished Pilot bushing hole for the forged 340 # 2532457 crankshaft. I think I ended up with an auto crank. So I have read about drilling the crank and other options. One option that I have not found much info on is using a smaller O.D. pilot bushing. Ran across the old Napa part # 615-1033 and now seems that there is a repo bushing on ebay with an .915 o.d. and .750 I.D. specifically made to address the smaller auto pilot hole.

Anyone use these bushings....any advice on this as it seems to be a much easier approach then trying to drill out a forged crank.   Thanks

I had the same issue with the 318 in my pickup truck. I sized the bushing myself with a drill and rough sand paper. The easiest thing to do is get the newer bearing that fits in the outer part of the crank. You can use a large socket and tap it in and you are done.

Easier and better to use the roller bearing - http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.php?prod=PB5300

Yes used these before. You might have to cut the end off your input shaft though if it hasn't been shortened already.

I just use the larger bushing as well. Checking input shaft length is necessary and I have no problem chopping the end off to make them work.
