Does anyone know what the letters mean on the space saver? Does anyone have other examples? I have seen some with date codes but not Mopar did that.

Looks like K1CU? My Mmc Detroit book states under a similar example "typical production information"

Here is another reference:
"BAK9 CU1 223"
BAK9 = manufacturer and plant
CU1 = Compact Spare
223 = 23rd week of '73  :huh: that might be a type-o but gives you the gist of the date format.

Anyway, that's awesome you have an original with the stamp still visible.  :bradsthumb:
'71 Cuda Convertible 340
'71 International Harvester Scout II

prior to calendar year 1971 each tire manufacturer had their own coding format

the DOT mandated that "during the 1971 calendar year" manufacturers must change to a standardized format (this remained in used until 2000 when an additional digit was added for "DECADE")

BA = manufacturer & plant = Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Manufacturing Akron, Ohio
( all the current DOT plant codes here > http://www.harriger.com/tires.htm *)

K9 = tire size =

CU1 = tire type =

223 = date of manufacture = 22nd week of '73 (could also be '83 or '93, see above about the added digit for decade that started in 2000)

the "K1CU" would be enough info on the tread of the tire to identify it on a rack

* some of the plant locations have changed in the past 4+ decades
