window louver question

 Another question about louvers?  I thought I once read some where that cars ordered with rear louvers automatically got a vinyl top, at least for 1971 cudas. Were challengers the same way, or was this a 71 year only thing.  If I remember right a friend bought a challenger T/A with louvers and it was a non vinyl top car.

To my knowledge louver cars all had vinyl tops .
But knowing Mopar you could order anything , I would like a TX9 AAR with louvers & no vinyl please

Louvers were absolutely available without a vinyl top... There was a notation  about vinyl top must to black with many interpreted as you had to order a black vinyl top... No, if you want a vinyl top it must be black.....

don't have '70 info in front of me but for 1971:

Barracuda A67 "backlight louver package" $171.00 - includes:
V1X - black vinyl top $82.40
G36 (or G31/G33?) - dual racing mirrors $25.75
J68 - louver ($62.85 remaining $)

Challenger A44 "louver package" $88.65 - includes:
G36 (or G31/G33?) - dual racing mirrors $25.75
J68 - louver ($62.90 remaining $)

the rear window louver J68 was NOT a stand alone orderable OPTION

I've never seen an original Cuda, 70 or 71 with louvers and no vinyl.....documented.

So apparently Cuda/Barracuda had to have a vinyl top....  But Challengers didn't....

I have dale's louvers on my challenger as well, they are great quality. FWIW, they pretty actively run 10% off
