WOW!!!!   :wowzers:  That's impressive.  No blackout on the pinch welds on the rockers?  Must not have had it from the factory being an early car?  :dunno:  It looks like it was done really well.  And bids look legit.  Hasn't it been for sale before?  Wonder what the reserve is?  I would have put the value around $200 on that car.

Maybe he knows some thing we don't. It must have been done for a good reason.

Similar V code converts have been selling at Mecum for $400,000+.

I;m out of touch on the convertibles.   :Thud:

As for the paint, most original engines didn't get a lot of paint on the bottom.  So it looks like they duplicated the runs and drips and kept the bottom really light.  Maybe they have photo documents to show that's how that engine was done?   :dunno:

What's weird about that one is that its a 4 speed with an 8 3/4??

A friend I met while back has one just like it. I told him I am interested in buying when he decides to sell.

Here is a quote from another site about the car.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It just kind of floors me that this car is completely restored and is missing the dana 60 that it should have.

I don't think the 8.75 axle in this car is wrong. Now, I'm not making any claims about this particular car, but I do have a comment in general about the Axles used in these 6pak A34-coded promo Challengers.

These cars were very early-build cars. As I've been told, in early production the E-body Dana60s were in short supply. Since these promo Challengers were not intended to be shipped right away, to get around this shortage these cars were built with 8.75 rears instead. The plan was that several months later, after their promo duties were over, the dealers would then swap out the 8.75 rears with the correct Danas. However, I believe at least 2 of these promo Challengers in very original condition still have their original 8.75s, so it appears not all of these axles were swapped out.

To support this info you'll find something odd on the Broadcast Sheets for these particular cars. As expected these sheets will be coded with both the A34 Combination Code (line 6) and with D58 Axle Code (line 2), showing the correct 4.10 9.75 rear. On line 4, the Axle Code should also show "081", coding the 4.10 E-body 9.75 axle assembly with 10" drums. However, specifically on these promo Challengers instead of "081" you will see Code "074". I'm not sure what "074" decodes to, but my guess is that it will be the 8.75, probably a 3.23 SG.

Again, while I can't vouch for this particular car in any way, and I haven't seen the sheet for this particular car, as a special case for these promo Challengers I believe either the 8.75 or 9.75 axles can be considered correct. And if a 9.75 is installed, I believe it can have a date code that is up to a couple months later than when the car was first built.

074   074 = 8 3/4 Rear Axle 3.23 ratio (Sure Grip) 11" Drum 1.875 Pinion & 7290 Yoke

So I guess that explains the rear axle.  Man, that's a cool car!   :drooling:

This all makes sense!  This is such a nice resto that it just didn't make sense that they would have the wrong differential.

That car is awesome!  Would look great in my garage!  Just not at that price!   :dunno:

I don't recall any that have sold north of $300K - the pilot car has been bid up there (twice) - but it has not sold, I don't believe the high bids to be legit.
