a few more questions as I'm trying to finalize everything
but I am questioning some electrical connections for a 71 cuda rallye gauges:

correct connections to and from ALT gauge?
correct connections to and from Clock gauge?
correct connections to and from Tach gauge?

any pics or help would be greatly appreciated
waiting to verify these before I connect battery for first time.

Cuda Cody

Are you using stock wiring?

wow, that was fast thanks Cuda Cody, unfortunately it is not the stock wiring, even though I am trying to make it as close as possible...I started with a American Autowire "kit" for 70-74 Ebody

could I be a pain and ask you to take 2 close-up pics of the back of the quad gauge and the tach.
I want to make sure i have the correct connections....man I hate electrical  :crying:

Cuda Cody

All my dashes are installed already so I'm just posting photos I took before they we're put it.

Don't pay any attention to my taped on numbers.  That's just a way I take things apart and labeling them.

Cuda Cody

Hope these help.

culp71

yes they all help!
I hate to sound stupid but, here are the ones in question:

A: I only have two spade connections on mine, do I just join a extra wire in? or do I have the wrong part installed?
wired to and from what?

b: always located to top? being this stud wired to what?
c: bottom stud. same questions?

d:again each stud wired to and from what? each side particular?

just want to make sure its wired correctly and safe.

Maybe yours is an aftermarket one from Vans. They don't utilize the capacitor/condenser because the output is a steady 5v, not pulsating.

that is the constant voltage unit I have, so how do I wire it when there's only two terminals?

and for the:
tach-spade terminal connects to neg coil and the stud gets connected to key on 12V right?
like this?

and what about ALT gauges two studs?
and the clock receives a "always hot" 12 v wire right?

Jay Bee

The 2 spade connectors for the 5v limiter are different types so the plugs should only go on one way. You are correct about the tach.

culp71

so the small "original style" capacitor is eliminated?

Jay Bee

Yep, no capacitor with THAT style of limiter, see the picture of the note that was sent with mine.
The ALT connections are as in the picture, my black wire had the insulation cut off. Rear of the housing is labelled too.
You're right about the clock too.

okay thank you, that sets my mind at ease...one last about the ALT gauge connections,
A-from what source?
B-from what source?

Jay Bee

A (red ALT wire) comes from pin #16 of the bulkhead connector which is fed from the fusible link in the engine bay.
B (black ALT wire) comes from pin #18 of the bulkhead connector which is fed from the alternator output. (Note that this black ALT wire is spliced within the harness and branches off to 5 other places, one being the back of the fuse box.)

culp71

idea as to what they connect to?
I do not have the stock wiring or bulkhead... (I wish I did)
so A would be fed from the fusible link in the engine bay, from? direct battery? key on 12 volt source?
and B would be from alternator output? and linked with ?

sorry for all the charge system questions but only have ever restores 40's and 50's vehicles, which have a completely different charge system.
