Any issue with running a group 27 battery in a 72 Barracuda with a 340 and A/C? Costco (they carry Interstate batteries with a 3 year warranty for $109.99) recommended a group 24, but all they have are 24F, no 24's at any St. Louis locations. Interstate does list group 27 as an optional battery for 'Cuda's, and my research indicates a 70 amp was optional in 1972.

And the group 27 is $99.99, also with a 3 year warranty.

Do it. Just make sure the hold downs fit good.
The more amps the better. The battery basically just starts the car.
It also acts as your reserve if your charging system fails.font]

Thanks MoparLeo! I just wanted a second opinion, knowing that bigger isn't always better.

For once... better and a lower price!

No problem with group 27.
It was available from the factory as an option on cars that came with a lower amp battery standard.

Costco here only has a group 27F (my nephew just bought one for his Charger) - can you get a 27 in MO?

Wow group 27's are in the $300 range around here :crying:

A few years ago the battery in my Challenger died with a few buddies in my yard waiting to head out on a cruise. I grabbed one off a tractor. Taller, wider and about twice as long. Don't know what group it was but it worked just fine. Good thing my battery is in the trunk.  :D

I was trying to plan ahead when I returned the Group 24F tonight and I'm almost positive I saw Group 27 and 27F.
I'll post a confirmation when I pick one up later this week.

Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm impressed with the knowledge and quick responses.

I need a new battery, guess I need to find a friend that has a Costco membership.

I won't use the forum to preach the benefits of Costco, but I will say, from a purely fiscal point of view, the price difference between their Interstate and a Never-Start from Walmart (the next cheapest battery I found) will pay for a one-year basic membership. :bigmoney:

Blowout

I just picked up a group 27 at Costco for my Challenger. Hard to beat the deal.

Agree, had to replace the battery in my JGC which is a massive AGM type. The Interstate for it was $80 less at Costco than at the Interstate store just down the street. They used to sell Optima but no longer, bummer. That is what I have in my 70 Challenger going on 8 years!!!

Costco Auto also has good deals on Michelin, my preferred daily tire!

Confirmed. Group 27, not 27F, battery stocked at Costco in St. Peters, MO. $99.99 with 3 year warranty. They have 6 in-stock, if anyone is in the area. After cranking the 340 over in sub-freezing temperatures yesterday, I'm glad I went with the bigger battery.

Thanks for everyone's input.
